Pre-Diabetes means that your blood sugars are higher than usual but not high enough for you to be diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. The most common way of diagnosis is through a HbA1c test. A test result between 42 and 47 mmol/mol (6.0–6.4%) indicates pre-diabetes, while HbA1c of 48 mmol/mol (6.5%) or over indicates you have developed Type 2 Diabetes and will probably experience some of the common symptoms.
Symptoms of diabetes include:
Getting a diagnosis of Pre-Diabetes can cause a great deal of worry. Without taking action, there is a possibility you will go on to develop Type 2 Diabetes which has serious implications for your health. The good news is that you can prevent this from happening and in many cases, the HbA1c reading can be reduced to healthy levels. This is called Pre-Diabetes reversal. What’s more, the process of achieving Pre-Diabetes reversal improves overall health and wellbeing. A Pre-Diabetes diagnosis can be a wake-up call to a better future.
Natalie has coached hundreds of people in group settings through the NHS Diabetes Prevention 9-month Programme for almost two years and has seen many cases of Pre-Diabetes reversal.

Early symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes can include:
· Lethargy - people describe feeling exhausted, tired or lethargic
· Urinating more often (especially at night)
· Blurred vision
· Feeling extra thirsty
· Longer healing times for cuts and wounds
Diabetes can often be prevented by living a healthy lifestyle. Avoid/reduce alcohol, sugar and refined carbohydrates such as white bread and white pasta.
Reduce the portion size of carbohydrates in your diet. Substituting with lean protein will keep you satisfied for longer after a meal and reduce cravings for carbohydrates.
Achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Obesity is a risk factor for Type 2 Diabetes.
Incorporate exercise into your daily/weekly routine.
Ensure you get adequate sleep.
Stay hydrated.
Reduce stress.
It is estimated that every year, 5-10% of those with Pre-Diabetes go on to develop Type 2 Diabetes, whilst a similar number reverse to a healthier blood sugar level. Your chances are very much altered depending on what changes you make to your diet and lifestyle.
Remedios Health does not provide a specific diet. You will however be given lots of personalised information and encouragement aimed at developing improved eating habits. For those looking to be prescribed a specific diet plan, the Metabolic Balance Personalised Nutrition Programme is available through Remedios Health. This programme provides an individualised diet plan following your blood marker investigations. This comprehensive blood test will also include HbA1C and Vitamin D levels.
The best diet plan for preventing diabetes should not include sugar or refined carbohydrates.
Minimal alcohol consumption.
Increase of protein consumption.
Elimination of trans fats.
A healthy diet with plenty of fresh vegetables and a moderate amount of fruit.
Portion control.
Avoidance of heavily processed and packaged foods in favour of cooking with fresh ingredients.
N.B. Don’t worry if it sounds like too much! Going some way towards this will be of great benefit. Coaching support will help keep you motivated and on track!
The HbA1c test (also known as the glycated haemoglobin test) is a blood test that indicates the average blood sugar (glucose) levels over the past two to three months. When the glucose level in the blood is too high, it bonds with the haemoglobin which becomes ‘glycated’.
The test is used to diagnose and monitor Pre-Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes, as well as to assess how well someone is managing their Diabetes over time.
A normal HbA1c result is classified as being below 42 mmol/mol (6%). A test result between 42 and 47 mmol/mol (6.0–6.4%) indicates Pre-Diabetes.
HbA1c of 48 mmol/mol (6.5%) or higher indicates you may have developed Type 2 Diabetes and will probably experience some of the common symptoms.

Health & Wellness Coaching is becoming increasingly popular. This is because by working with a coach, motivation is higher and objectives are agreed and continually monitored. This means the chances of a timely result are much increased. If anything goes off track, your coach finds ways to help move you back on course. Some sessions may look at strategies to cope with common issues such as resistance to change, food addictions and lowered motivation. What’s more, Natalie works with clients to build enduring lifestyle changes that will be of benefit well into the future.
With the necessary research, planning and implementation you can absolutely succeed on your own. However, your chances will be optimised by working with a Health & Wellness partner.
